How to Prevent Ankle Sprains Before They Happen
Ankle sprains are one of the most common sports injuries there are — and once you've rolled an ankle once, you're far more likely to do it again. The good news: most sprains are preventable with the right support and a little awareness.
Why ankles are so easy to sprain
Your ankle relies on ligaments, not muscle, to stay stable side to side. Quick direction changes, landing awkwardly off a jump, or even stepping on an uneven surface can push the joint past what those ligaments can handle — especially if you've sprained it before and it's still not fully stable.
How to lower your risk
- Warm up your ankles specifically, not just your legs generally — ankle circles and light hops before playing
- Wear supportive footwear appropriate for your sport
- If you've sprained before, wear compression support during activity — a previously sprained ankle is significantly more likely to sprain again
- Don't rush back into full-intensity activity right after an injury, even if it "feels fine"
Equipment alone isn't the full picture
Most fitness and sporting goods stores sell you the equipment — the shoes, the training gear — and stop there. Nobody's pairing that with the support gear that actually keeps you on the field or court instead of on the couch recovering. That's the gap Raze Equipment fills: we don't just sell you the tools to train hard, we sell you what keeps you training safely, too. We won't sell you heavy lifting or training equipment without also offering the support gear to keep your workout safe.
How a support sleeve helps
An Ankle Support Sleeve adds compression and mild stabilization during activity, which helps keep the joint from rolling past a safe range — especially useful if you've had ankle issues before or play a sport with a lot of cutting and jumping, like basketball or football.
One sprained ankle is bad enough. Don't make it a repeat problem.
